    Simply splendid! What a challenge but mastered with the usual skill. I have a Sony cassette recorder (CF 420L) bought in 1973 and still going strong. However, I think I’ll probably need the cassette function belt changing as there is a slight wobble in the sound! Good to see old tech getting the attention it deserves. Excellent work.

    This must have been updated on the second spring model because when you turn off the radio it unwinds slowly. Still it would be fully unwound in maybe 2 hours though. I think the wind is controlled by switching between a charging capacitor; and just shorting the generator, so if you turn off the radio, the capacitor is fully charged and the generator runs on short circuit, which means it will slowly leak the wind. It would be ideal if you could lock the handle in place. Also if you could wind through a differential, which means uninterrupted listening and winding, even if you need twice as many turns. Anyway the spring models were discontinued and replaced with rechargeable batteries and a hand crank generator. I do like the spring power though. It holds a certain charm, even if it's inferior technology.

    You are so mistaken about this radio friend..... Bought mine back in the heady Art Bell days of 90s radio. Bought from C. Crane Co. Yours has some kind of "lamp" outlet on the back. Mine has only a blank hole. You forgot you have a 9volt + center power jack when you get tired of winding it. BTW 60 quick turns is great for a half hour. Try plugging a solar cell into the pwr jack also. These things are great. A bit bulky, could use an audio out jack, great sound and built like Granny's Rocking Chair. A Tank. I need to get into mine. Generator turns, no power to radio yet plays on AC adapter. You have one, keep it. Keep it running well.

    This account of how the United States ruined AM radio for listeners in the USA pretty much reflects how the same thing happened across the planet. In addition to a reduction in audio quality at the transmitter, the quality of electronics inside of radios suffered when so called PLL based circuitry became the industry standard. “Around 1990, in an effort to further reduce interference between and to allow yet closer placement of AM stations, the FCC accepted the recommendation of the National Radio Standards Committee (NRSC) to limit AM audio to 7.5 kHz. This caused significant loss of fidelity in AM station audio quality.”

    The chimpanzee Enos was launched into orbit on November 29, 1961, so there’s the date of that tape. Enos survived his spaceflight, which was a dress rehearsal for John Glenn’s historic orbital flight. AM radio did sound that good before regulators reduced the bandwidth in order to allow more AM broadcast licenses to be issued. AM radios were also of higher quality. I have tapes that I recorded that prove that. wish the old standards would be restored.

    AM didn't sound that good, and it could be a bit too early for FM, so I suspect it was recorded at the Radio Hong Kong studios as it was going to air.

    The high quality of the audio, notwithstanding the mains hum, suggests that it was recorded from an FM radio. FM broadcasting began in Hong Kong in 1960 though I can't definitively prove that Radio Hong Kong was simulcasting on FM in 1961. Alternatively it may have been recorded from Rediffusion's HK cable service which carried radio stations.

    I love old tape recorders too, and not quite sure exactly how many I have. I'll dig 'em out and count them when I get a wet afternoon! I made recordings of all sorts of stuff when a teenager (I'm now pushing 70) and like to hear them occasionally and listen to the news from back in the day. Also recording nonsense with mates on my parent's Grundig TK120, which I now own. Interesting video, cheers! I've got some tapes of radio shows where the oxide is shedding and I want to transfer onto better tape when the opportunity arises.

    That is a fine and well chosen collection from the Zenit stable. I started out on a Kiev 4A and progressed to a Zenit E. I learned the basics of photography on those cameras. I recall having Zorki 4A for a while too. The only Practica I ever owned was the EE 2. It had a program mode. The presentation was great. History in addition to a clear explanation of the workings of a mechanical SLR. I liked the photos too. Can’t beat black and white film. Looking forward to more videos on a photography theme! Cheers.

    What I'm somehow missing in my overview of your camera collection and what you can really show off creatively not only in terms of collecting, but also photographically, is a camera from the Praktica VLC series, i.e. the Praktica VLC, the Praktica VLC2 or the Praktica VLC3. These are comparable with the Nikon F series, the Canon F series or the Pentax LX, i.e. SLR cameras that have interchangeable viewfinder attachments as well as the option of changing lenses. Prism viewfinder waist-level viewfinder and magnifying viewfinder. In terms of quality, the Praktica easily matches the others and costs a fraction of the price. For my part, I have the Praktica VLC2 and what can I say, I don't need the models from Nikon, Canon or Pentax, the Praktica is completely sufficient, and at its price the fun of taking photos with it tastes even sweeter. As I said, I recommend a camera from the Praktica VLC series, then once you have photographed with it, you can certainly let go of one or other of the other cameras you have at some point. Greetings from Germany

    • @SchwarzPoet
      @SchwarzPoet 3 місяці тому

      @@MrZenitJ If you don't already have one, there are adapters for Praktica cameras with an elongated battery compartment on the major sales platforms, into which you can insert three LR44 button cell batteries to achieve the required 4.5 volts. Just search for Praktica battery adapters. Incidentally, this also applies to the VLC series, among others 😉

    OI ! Theres nothing wrong with 8-Track, I've got 2 recorders and 3 players. Plus about 200 tapes. I even had a quad sytem in my car in the 80's. Yes the tapes snap, or get chewed, or bind up.
